Character Information
Character Name: Maka Albarn
Canon: Soul Eater (anime)
Canon Point: Immediately post-anime
Is your character Dead, Undead or Alive: Alive
History: Wiki link anime, not manga history.
Personality: Sometimes in an anime series you need characters who can stay calm in a tough battle situation, strategists who can use their abilities and the abilities of their teammates to full advantage. Sometimes you need a character who just screams "fuck this shit" and punches their opponent in the face, ignoring any special abilities they have and just slamming straight ahead. Maka is that latter type of character.

At first glance, Maka Albarn is kind of an introverted nerd. Her friends tend to drag her along with them to social events, though she'd rather be reading and studying. She's one of those students who bases a lot of their self-worth on their academic standing, and takes pride in the fact that she's consistently top of the class, a position she achieves through hard work and sheer stubbornness rather than being a natural genius.

She also has an incredibly explosive temper. Her first reaction to a problem is to get angry at it, whether that problem is her dad cheating on her mom, her friends making fun of her, or an immortal werewolf trying to tear her apart. When she gets angry, she tends to just drop her plans and get physically violent, defaulting to the most straightforward response possible.

Maka values hard work, loyalty, and taking responsibility for your own actions. She is aware of rules, though she breaks them when she thinks she can do better. Her friendships are incredibly important to her, and she does her best to get stronger so that no one is hurt because of her. She's also very protective of her friends, and will do everything in her power to keep them safe.

She can also be really childish (which makes sense, since she is still a little girl). She holds grudges, overreacts a lot, is highly competitive, and extremely impulsive. She doesn't think much about consequences, like when she tackled an immortal werewolf off of a bridge. She also likes being girly and dressing up, though she can get insecure about her physical appearance (especially because her female friends are all older and more physically developed). Her knowledge is pretty specialized, growing up in Death City and being so focused on becoming a scythemeister like her mom, so she knows more about fighting than about being a "normal" kid, but she's not really interested in being "normal".

Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Soul Perception: Maka can see souls, gathering information on species, personality, and the strength of their abilities.
Anti-magic wavelength: Maka's soul has the ability to destroy "evil". She can drive out and destroy people/spirits/souls that are possessing another person's body, as well as destroy people who are "evil", or who use magic defenses. This is an active rather than a passive ability, so she is not immune to magic, she's just able to destroy it. Unlike in the manga, this ability does not protect her against insanity, since it is neither magic nor evil.
Meister training: Maka is a scythemeister, which means she has experience in both hand-to-hand combat and in using a demon weapon scythe in battle.
Weapon form: Because Maka's father is a weapon, Maka inherited the ability to transform into a scythe. However, she was only able to transform while unconscious, and she doesn't even realize she has the ability.
Personality strengths: Maka is ridiculously brave, and once she sets herself on a task, nothing and no one can stand in her way. She's a good student, and is willing to work as hard as it takes to be at the top of the class, and has a pretty wide store of random knowledge that should come in handy in survival situations. She's friendly, and willing to give anyone a chance, no matter who they are or what they've done.
Personality weaknesses: Hand in hand with her courage comes a compete disregard for anything resembling self-preservation (once, she tackled an immortal werewolf off of Tower Bridge into the Thames in the middle of winter). She just plain doesn't look before she leaps, or think before she rushes headlong into things. This extends to things like jumping to conclusions and blindly trusting authority figures. Maka's also from a world where it's totally normal to punch your best friends in the face with all your strength when you get annoyed at them, which means there will probably be problems interacting with people who aren't used to casual violence. She's also introverted (for a shonen hero) and tends to avoid social gatherings.

Prose Log Sample:
Maka wasn't dressed for the cold. There's no possible way she could be dressed for the sudden freezing winter temperatures. Midsummer temperatures in Death City hovers consistently in the low triple digits, and window fans only do so much to cool down an apartment. So she's wearing shorts and a thin tee-shirt and no shoes, and there's chest deep snow outside of wherever these kidnappers dragged her. There's no way in hell she's going outside until she finds a jacket or shoes or pants or something. She's already shivering, goosebumps covering her arms and legs, and she hasn't left the building yet.

Until she manages to find clothes or any of her friends, she's just going to sit in a chair and stare out the window, mind running about a million miles an hour, trying to think of any similar situations in books (history or fiction or hypothetical) and trying to remember everything she's read about winter survival. Winter survival without decent clothes or her partner or any supplies.

Someone who doesn't know her would probably be concerned by Maka's appearance, the way every inch of her not covered by bandages is bruised dark purple-blue and sickly yellow. But the bruises are badges of honor, and the stitches - "One hundred and three", Professor Stein had said, with a laugh that sounded proud of her - the stitches just mean she's going to have some new scars. The injuries that aren't visible are worse, but the fight was days ago, and she isn't even concerned about them anymore.

Right now her priorities are simple. Find Soul. Find anyone else she knows. Find clothes and shelter and fire. Then food. And then she can worry about her injuries. There's a mantra already starting in her mind, a variation of the one from when she fought the Man with the Magic Eye months ago.

It's not cold. It doesn't hurt. I'm not scared. It's not cold. It doesn't hurt. I'm not scared.

If she repeats it enough, eventually her body will stop trying to argue, and she'll be fine.
